Sula: Creating distinctive soft furnishings in traditional hand-woven Harris Tweed

From one-off cushions, throws and picnic rugs to entire hotel refurbishments, Sula offers a professional service tailored to individual needs.

Mixing the traditional beauty of Harris Tweed with the best in modern design, these products are at home in all settings.

Although based in the small village of Strathyre in Highland Perthshire, Sula Furnishing’s roots lie in the remote Scottish islands of the Outer Hebrides.

It was there that the islanders of Lewis, Harris, the Uists and Barra invented the cloth which now bears the name Harris Tweed.

The hand-woven fabric, first used to guard against the harsh Atlantic weather, has an enduring popularity. And no wonder. With its rich palette of colours and designs as well as its emphasis on quality, Harris Tweed enhances all styles of interior, from traditional to contemporary.

Originally designs were influenced by the colours and textures of the Outer Hebridean landscapes, for example, greens from the heathers (fraoch), reds from lichen scraped from rocks (crotal) and yellow from peat soot.

More recently, the weavers have taken inspiration from wider sources, including the latest catwalk fashions. So whatever your taste, there’s bound to be something to suit.
